I updated my Windows Media Player to version 10, and restarted my computer. When I started it up again, my computer froze within a few minutes, so I turned it off and turned it back on, and when it loaded, nothing came up except my desktop background. No icons, no taskbar, nothing but my desktop picture. I have to run all programs through the task manager. System Restore won't come up properly either. How can I fix this?

Start your computer then begin to press the f8 key repeatedly about once per second until the windows advanced options menu appears, use the arrow keys to select last known good configuration(your most recent settings that worked) press enter, use arrow keys to select microsoft windows xp press enter. The Last Known Good Configuration feature uses information that is saved from the last time that you shut down your computer to restore registry settings and drivers.
