Will my Sony Notebook hard drive work in a Dell Notebook?

I have a Sony Vaio laptop which I need to send in for warranty service. I need my data during that time. Is it possible to drop the HD from my Vaio laptop into a Dell laptop? Would the Dell even work?

Since you mention warranty service, I would not recommend removing any parts from your notebook, as doing so would probably void your warranty with Sony

I would recommend burning any irreplaceable information to a rewritable CD (CD-RW) and work off of that while your notebook is being serviced.
