This question was answered on May 10, 2005. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

1 First you should remove the DVD burner and boot your PC to see if it continues to lock up.

2 If the computer starts up normally after you’ve remove the DVD burner then you know it’s the burner.

3 If the DVD burner is the cause of your problem check the DVD burner and confirm that it’s compatible with Windows XP.

4 Go to the Microsoft Windows Update Compatible Hardware and Software Web site: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/catalog/catalogshell/shell.asp?subid=22 5 Search the website by the DVD burner’s manufacturer to determine if your hardware is compatible or incompatible with Windows XP You can check the site to determine if you need to update your drives Don’t worry if you don’t see the manufactures information because the site does not necessarily contain a complete list of products compatible with Windows XP.

6 Before reinstalling the DVD check the manufacturers website and check for downloads and updates that you may need before re-installing the DVD burner.

7 If you don’t find driver updates and you reinstall the DVD burner and continual to have the same problem then contact us again with the DVD burner manufactures information.

Good Luck!
