Why isn't double clicking not working?

This has to do with opening folders with a double click. Recently a change happened in the manner in which I have to open a folder, whether on my desktop or in Windows Explorer. Prior to this change, doulbe clicking would open the folder. Now, double clicking opens a search screen - "search companion". When looking at the context menu (right click on folder), I notice that Search comes first in the list and it is in bold letters. Previously Open had been first in line. I've done a "find" in the registry trying to find where the order of the context menu is located to see if I could change the order or even delete search from the list, but to no avail. I'd like to change it back so that a double click opens the folder rather than opening a search screen. I'm wondering whether this is a result of some malicious program I've picked up over the internet.

Try accessing System Restore from either safe mode or 'Safe Mode with Command prompt'.. Type in:

%systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
