My HP Pavillion keeps shutting itself down. It appears to be an over heating issue and not sure if the fan is defective or just needs a cleaning inside. What do you think?

Your PC is most likely shutting itself down due to the fact that it is overheating The first thing i would do is try cleaning the processor fan and case fans You can do this best by using a compressed air can or Q-tip While you're cleaning the fans, make sure they are securely connected to their power source If this does not correct the problem, the next step would be to try relacing the processor fan, and then then case fans.
