Whenever I shutdown my system after working on an excel spreadsheet or a Word document, the Windows XP tries to write (or save) something on my a:drive, even though I have already saved the file to a floppy. The a:drive chatters when this happens, trying to write something to an empty drive, and the larger the file, the longer the chattering. How do I stop the system from trying to write to the a:drive during shutdown?

You can either leave the floppy in until after the computer is shutdown or after you take the floppy out prior to shutdown you can change your "save in:" to your local drive so it is not looking for the a: drive
