Sometimes when my computer boots up i get the Operating software not found message .Other times it boots up and runs fine.It is as if, it is not accessing my hard drive the times it does not work.Is this possible a hard drive fault or something else.

Yes, it sounds like you are having an issue with your harddrive I would first try using scan disk/check disk for your hard drive and see if it comes up with any errors also do a disk cleanup You can run disk clean up from performance and maintenance option within the control panel You can scan the drive from administrative tools/computer management/select the drive/select Action menu and rescan disks I would also highly recommend backing up your system just in case you end up needing a new hard drive You may also want to defragment your dive Also this will analyze your drive..
