Why does my laptop randomly shut down?

Why does my computer have problems keeping up with things when I am playing a downloaded game(Zuma Deluxe) and then shut down while playing? I think my fan is not working. My computer gets really hot.

It's common for laptops to get hot, but if they get too hot they will shut down If you’re hearing a grinding noise or no sound of airflow, then yes it is your fan However, it could be that your airflow is blocked If possible try to keep your outtake vent clear to allow hot air out of your system.
