When I shut my computer completely down at night, then go to bed and the phone rings, my computer boots up!

Fortunately it goes back to sleep after a time..What is causing this to boot up?

I am assuming you have a dial up connection using an internal modem When the phone rings it has to go through the Modem first this activates the modem which tells the computer to wake up One possible place to trung this off is from device manager GO to Start - Control Panel - Perfromance and Maintenance - System - Device Manager - Find Modems - select modem - right click it - then select properties - look at all the tabs if there is one about power management choose it and make sure to deselect any options that allow this device to bring computer out of standby You should also check your BIOS settings under power management option in the BIOS See if there are settings to enable boot on Modem activity, or modem rings, etc Disable these settings if they are enabled.
