I purchased a new HP computer and have been using the keyboard which came with the computer. About one a day the keyboard stops working.
I switched to a keyboard from an old e machine and it works. However, it also shuts down about once a day.
If I reboot both of the key boards operate until they stop working and I have to reboot.
The computer still shows the HP keyboard even if I am using the e machine keyboard.
The sleep mode works with both machines as does volume control etc, until they stop working and we can not type with the keyboard.

If device management is stating an error, your warranty will probably replace it since you just bought this computer recently Your computer should still be under warranty However, replacing the port isn't that difficult Just make sure you have the correct connector for your keyboard, ps/2 or usb when you purchase one, bring in the old one.
try updating the driver, go to http://welcome.hp.com/country/us/en/support.html and type in the product name and number and download updates for your firmware.
