What's Active X?

Microsoft keeps asking for me to update with Active X Controls is this a good thing to do and what is active x controls?????????????.

Active X is an enhancement for Windows users It allows websites and some games to provide a better graphical and for lack of a better word, flashy, experience Active X upgrades should hurt your computer but it wouldn't be a bad idea to create a System Restore point before installing an Active X control just incase things go south.
