How do you network 2 computers through a router?

we are tryin to hook 2 computers together we have linky's router.one computer has windows 98 and the other has xp...could you please help us with this...

You can go to the control pannel on both of your computers, go to "Network Connections" and then select the connection you are using to connect your computer to your router, normally something along the lines of "Local Area Connection" Right click it and go to properties and then in the box find "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" Select it and go to properties You will then want to manually type in an IP address such as 192.168.1.2 on one computer and then incriment the last number on the other computer to something like 192.168.1.3 , 192.168.1.1 will probably be your router This will allow your computers to see each other

Another option is to pull out your routers manual and have the router assign the IP's for you This will differ from router to router and from model to model.
