How do I keep scandisk from running when I boot my computer?
This question was answered on June 17, 1999. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
Is scandisk automatically running when you start your computer? If it is then for some reason Windows is not shutting down properly please see the following:
If a previous session of Windows is not properly shut down, the next boot will initiate a run of the ScanDisk utility This behavior is by design
Solution:
No workaround exists
NOTE: You should not turn off the computer while Windows is running unless the computer has stopped responding to mouse and keyboard input
To properly shut down Windows:
1) Click 'Start' on the Windows taskbar (The 'Start' menu appears.)
2) Select 'Shut Down...', and select the 'Shut down' radio button
3) Click 'OK' The machine will then properly shut down
If you start your computer and it opens with the scandisk window then somehow the scandisk utility has been moved or copied into your startup window To move scandisk back to the system tools folder do the following Click start, click windows explorer, double click windows, double click on the start menu, double click programs, double click startup Drag scandisk onto the desktop and put it back in c:\\windows\startmenu\programs\accessories\system tools by clicking start, then click windows explorer, double click windows, double click programs, double click accessories, double click on system tools.
