What is RAM?

my computer came with 128 RAM I added another 128 but the computer system information shows it has 192MB Should it show 256? Where did the missing RAM go? The computer came with Window 98 and was upgraded to XP last year.

If you already have 128 MB of RAM when you got your system then you added another stick of 128 MB of RAM, it should have a total of 256 MB It maybee because the stick that you added is only 64 MB.It also depends on how many sticks you have in there like 2 64 MB or 1 128 MB stick/s,and it could also be that one of RAM sticks is toast That is the reason you only have 192 MB of RAM.Check the stick you added ito see if it is really 128 MB and that all of the sticks are all working properly.
