How do I change my area code information in AOL?

I live in Phoenix and we have 3 area codes that will go into effect on Sept. 1. I got off of the Internet on your web site today on how to change that so that the computer will not automately dial "1" with the area codes. The two ways that your site said to change it, I could not carry out the instructions. My "Dial-Up-Networking icon did not show an icon that represented my ISP, nor under Modems Dialing Properties did it have an "Area Code Rules." Any help that you can provide I would appreciate it as I do not wish to have any problems when the area codes go into effect. Thank you in advance for your help.
