How can I delete or uninstall Office Assistant? I have Windows98 and Office 97 Small Business Edition. Thanks

The Office Assistant or as some call it the “Office Annoyance” is Microsoft’s attempt at a kinder, gentler, way of providing context sensitive help to you when you are using one of the Office programs “Context sensitive” means that the Office Assistant is watching every keystroke and mouse click so that it can “jump-in” when it thinks that you need some help For instance, if you click multiple times below the cursor in a document, the Office “Insistent” will appear to let you know that you must hit the Enter key several times to get to that part of the document While this feature can be “neat-o” in the beginning and in some rare cases actually be helpful, most of us would like a virtual BB gun whenever this dude shows up on our screens to pester us

To “execute” the Office assistant, you will need the Office 97 CD Before getting started be sure to close all open applications Begin by clicking on the Start button, then on Settings and then select Control Panel Once the Control Panel window is open, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon When the Add/Remove Programs dialog box appears, click the Install/Uninstall tab Select Microsoft Office 97 in the software list and then click the “Add/Remove...” button at the bottom of the window At this point, you should be prompted to put the Office 97 CD in the CD-ROM drive When you insert the CD, the Microsoft Office 97 Setup dialog box should appear Click the Add/Remove.. button in this window to show you all of the components of Office and a check mark will be next to all of the currently installed features Select the Office Tools entry then click on Change Options Remove the check mark in front of the Office “Irritant” then click the continue button Click on continue one last time to get rid of it Click OK when the Setup has finished and the Office Assistant will be sent to that big desktop in the sky! (Office 2000 users can also use this method)
