This does not sound like a problem with your computer I would like to ask one question:

Did your dad aquire this machine as part of a "Free PC" offer? Many computer stores have made offers like this where you buy a pc and are then rebated a large percentage of the cost, while the buyer(s) is (are)obligated to carry contracts with the ISP (Internet Service Provider) for a certain amount of time These offers have created tremendous loads on the internet and the providers, and not all the providers have been good enough to increase their resources to accomodate the additional load of new customers It sounds to me like the ISP your dad is with has experienced an increased load It does not appear to be a problem with your dad's computer, it is just that server he connects to is extremely busy. The problem may go away after several attempts to reconnect
