I read FAQ but no solution. Microsoft and my computer maker, both have gone thru all the paths. Micro says maker problem, Maker checked all installed programs and devices. MSN spent over 4 hours on phone so far and have given up. The machine was shutting down to the normal last window - It is now safe to shut down your machine - but all of the sudden it never goes to that window..it stops with the windows logo and then goes to a black overall screen... Both msn and Maker say wait a few minutes and then turn machine off...Your thoughts. It comes back up normally when asked. We have found no conflicts, we have reinstalled both 98 and 98 upgrade and shut down patch...No luck!!!! any help appreciated...Ken A

Shutdown problems with Win 98 are fairly common Usually a re-install of the Operating System will resolve the problem, at least for a little bit If your not receiving a blue screen with a specific error message, and the computer starts in normal mode you shouldn't be too concerned.

I have two suggestions:

#1 Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com there may be an update available that will provide a fix

if your problem is being caused by bug microsoft has identified.

#2 Send microsoft a support update request You can do this at

the below web address: http://support.microsoft.com/support/email/windowsupdate/wassist.asp
