Need information and help in buying a Laptop/computer for my daughter for college.

This question was answered on April 16, 2000. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

You need to ask yourself a few questions before you buy You should consider what type of work your daughter will be doing on the computer (word processing, spread sheet lay-out, graphics and the like) Then you must know if she is going to be connecting to the internet for research (usually the case in this day and age) and lastly you should set yourself a budget You really should know how much you can afford to spend.

Having worked with quite a few computers myself, I would suggest you look to Compaq for stability and performance for a reasonable cost They are economical sturdy machines Please take a look at:

When you get there click on the notebooks icon.

The other option I would suggest is Dell These machines are not quite as inexpensive but they Dell creates some of the best computers on the planet Dell’s line of notebooks range from semi-powerful to notebooks that outperform most any desktops Please take a look at:

Again it really depends on what your daughter will be doing with the machine and how much you are going to spend.
