When I start up my computer, about half the time it will not load into windows98 and I have to turn the system off and start again. When it does boot up into windows98, I will get a DOS-looking "windows 98 start up menu" with five options:

1 normal

2 safe mode only

3 step by step configuration

4 unknown (I don't remember)

5 unknown

Is there anything I can do other than uninstalling windows and starting all over again.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks for sending your question It looks like your system is corrupted I had a similar experience with my daughter's computer afew months ago When you're able to to boot up into the Dos-looking Windows 98 with the five options Try doing this: (This is what I did).

1 Select normal and see if it will boot up to the startup screen where you can properly shutdown and restart your computer. If you're able to do it, it may have fix itself.

2 If it does not work, select "safe mode" (I had to this to fix my computer friend's computer) Let the computer boot on safe mode It should take you to the Windows 98 startup screen where you can shutdown/restart your computer I hope this will help you Otherwise, you might have to uninstall/reinstall Win98 It's unfortunate, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do even if it means starting over Let us know the outcome.

Thanks,
