Scandisk issue

When running scan disk on my hard drive the program will run for a few seconds then lock up. When I click ALT CTRL DEL my sytem states than the program is not responsing. The same problem also occurs when I run the disk defragmenter. This problem only occurs on my hard drive "C" (10 GB drive with 5 GB unused.) I have a separete slave drive (6GB) that runs both of these programs OK. I have done a virus check using Dr. Solomon lastest version and the disk is clean. Any ideas on what might be causing my problem?? Other than not being able to run these two programs on the "C" hard drive, everything else seems to run OK on this drive.

UNANSWEREDgo to start shutdown restart and as soon as the computer restarts ,start tapping the f8 key(dribble it like a basketball )until the microsoft startup menu comes up Choose safe mode and run a through scandisk .This should eliminate your problem.
