Why does my machine always boot to DOS only?

Chances are your system has been told to boot without the Graphical User interface (GUI) possibly from running a legacy 16-bit game or program that did not cleanly transfer back to your 32-bit system The "msdos.sys" file has been edited by the offending program and now you will have to manually edit it At a DOS Prompt type
edit msdos.sys
then find the line that says
BootGUI=0
and change the value to 1 The 0 turned the GUI off and the 1 will turn it back on.
