How can I shut down my computer without pressing the power button?

I wish to shut down my hard-drive and monitor automatically and save on power and 'wear and tear'. i.e, when I shut down I no longer have to manually press the on-off button for both terminal and tower hard-drive. I have tries through power management but with no luck. I have been told I might have to change my bios system. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Stuart Judd

Unless you're using an ATX system you're going to either press the power button or you canplug the machine into a surge protector and use the switch on the power strip there to turn the system, monitor, printer, etc. on/off.
