This question was answered on November 25, 2000. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.

If you are running Win98/Me, Click on "START", "RUN", and type "scanregw" in the box then hit ENTER A dialogue box will come up and tell you either your registry is backed up, or it has been backed-up once already , do you want to do it again? "YES" is the answer.

Hit "CTRL-ALT-DEL" and end all tasks except "explorer" and "systray" Some may have to be ended several times If a dialogue box appears saying a program has stopped responding, click on "End Task".

Install your new software.

Use the default setup options unless you are absolutely sure that you want to change the options.

When its finished, restart the system whether the software prompts you to or not.

If the system restarts properly you're done If not, reboot the system to "Command Prompt Only" (with Me, boot to a bootable 98 floppy disk), then type "Scanreg /restore" and choose the registry backup that you just created prior to installation.
