I have a 486 Acer Acros desktop computer. I installed a cd rom drive in it. What I need is more memory which I don't know how much to install and I need a larger hard drive, along with a sound card that works. I have windows 95 on it and am wanting to get this ready for my son to enjoy some games and get on the internet to talk to me. Can you recommend what type of memory I need; what type of hard drive to install; and a 486 sound card. I have purchased the cheapies 9.00 or 15.00 sound cards and they aren't worth nothing. They don't even work.

Hello!

If you were only adding a drive or some more RAM that would be one thing But from what you've said it sounds like a complete rebuild, which in my opinion is not worth the investment

RAM:$100

CD-ROM:$40

Hard Drive:$100

Sound Card:$50

Modem:$30

New BIOS-likely:$70

For a couple hundred more you can get a (NEW) pc Check the sales at your local stores and here's some sites to check WWW.BUYABS.COM,WWW.AXISSYS.COM But if you really want to rebuild the 486 check out WWW.SHOPPER.COM for componets and prices Good luck!

Hope this helps
