On some of our windows 95 pcs(Dell pcs), when you press

Ctrl, Alt, Del to get to the close programs dialog box, the computers are rebooting instead.

I could have sworn I saw a fix somewhere, that gave a fix so you could choose either reboot or to have the close programs dialog box come up, but am unable to find it.

When we go to try and fix a pc it is a pain to have the system reboot, rather than being able to take a look and see what is running.

I would GREATLY appreciate any info. you could provide me with changing this problem!

Thank you for your time - nice web site; and a great idea for students to get OJT training!!

Have fun,

George

Hello and thank you for your question.

There are a couple of things that could cause this 1 Keyboard controller, 2 Software issues I think that more than likely you are having keyboard controller problems Pressing Ctrl, Alt, Del should bring up the close window and pressing these keys a (second) time should reboot the system I suggest to take a keyboard from a pc that is working fine and swap it out with one of the ones in question, and see if it makes a difference This will tell you if it is the contoller or not If it doesn't make a difference then you're looking at a software issue, and if that turns out to be the case please submit a new question.

Good luck!
