I have a Garmin GPS and I have been unable to make a connection from the map software to the GPS using either comm1 or comm2 serial ports. The error message in the map software says that the GPS is not connected. I have tried both comm ports. I found that the modem was on comm1 so switched the modem to comm2. With no results. I have used an adapter to connect the pc interface cable to the comm2 port with no results. I took the Gps and the pc interface cable to the Garmin dealer and it worked fine on their computer it made the connection and downloaded the maps from their software. I have checked the device manager and it indicates that both ports are operating. I have checked the bios and both ports are enabled. I have called customer support for Garmin and they indicate that its probably a configuration error in my computer.

Any suggestions? or do I need to take this to Data Doctors and have them check it?

Thanks for your help
