Why does defrag hang up?

Hi there hope you can Help me.

For the past few times I have been tring to defragment my computer but the problem is that it will only defragment to 52% and will go no futher. I have also tried to run a scandisk when I do a thorough one it says it has tried to do this 10 times but says that there is another program running

I can not find that program.

Without your profile information it's hard to give you a real good idea what the problem might be I will do the best I can to give you a few clues, but you may still want to re-submit with more details of your system.

I would first look to how much space you have left on your hard drive and to the amount of memory that you have Programs such as Defrag that basically reorganize your hard drive need a certain amount of space to run If you are running out of space on your hard drive, it might hang when it can no longer run effectively

Other than that, we will have to wait until you re-submit with a little more information.
