Let Data Doctors be your personal IT department today

First of all, i just purchaced a brand new gateway 1.1ghz amd athalon w/ 128mb. When i play mp3s, the sound "skips" with just about all other activity. I defraged the hard drive and that seemed to clear things up for a few days. Gateway tech support said that the problem is perhaps corrupt data and suggested that i reformat my hd and start from scratch. This sounds like way to much work. This pc is brand new! I had the same problem on my previous pc, a pentium 266. If there is something i can do, let me know. thanks. TOM

Thanks for using computerproblems.com!

Your question was: "When i play mp3s, the sound "skips" with just about all other activity."

In order to accuratly answer this question, I will need a little more information from you.

1 Does the sound "skip" when playing files other than mp3's? (For example, movie files, games, .wav's, or Windows sounds)

2 Are you using the same speakers as your previous pc? It could be your speakers are bad, or the connector is loose or defective.

After answering these questions, I might be able to determine what the problem is.

Thanks, Zach
