I have a 450MHz Pentium 3 with 256 megs of RAM. My system says only 59% is available. When I try to use Photoshop,I get an error message that says,

"Cannot complete task, not enoug RAM."

How can I free up RAM on my system?

Hi, According to your question, you do have more than enough memory to run Photoshop However, are you running any other applications at the same time? (To run Photoshop effectively, Windows should have at least 50% of the system resources free.) If you do, try to close one or more applications, minimize applications, or restart Windows to release the resources Remember to close any files that you are not working on at the time Make sure also that you are not running anything in the background when you are using Photoshop Photographs take up a large amount of memory

I suggest you go to the Adobe website and check out the particular page: http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/12dde.htm

The above website will give you many suggestions on how to optimize your system to use Photoshop more efficiently

Good luck and we always welcome further questions!
