Starting about two weeks ago, my mouse randomly freezes up and will only move up and down. I have tried cleaning the ball and the mouse and it still happens. It happens more often when I have applications open. I am not sure if this is related, but scandisk is unable to complete. I get an error saying some other application is writing to something and that I need to close all programs even though nothing is open except scandisk.

Hello and thanks for your question.

By any chance were any changes made just prior to the problem, such as new software or an added device?

The first thing to do is clean your mouse, which you have done.

If possible, try a similar mouse for a few days If the problem does not reappear, it is time to get a new mouse

According to the profile provided with this question the computer only has 32MG memory With the problem occurring most often with an open application and the error message received, this is a good indication that there is a memory conflict If possible, increase the memory

Reminder: Scandisk should be run uninterrupted

Hope this helps.
