Hi, According to the Inside NT text book, there is not a way, and you must reinstall This is not entirely true.
There are several utilities to accomplish this task
Some you will have to pay for, one is a utility at http://www.mirider.com. Check http://www.mirider.com/ntaccess.html) on how to recover
Administrator password cleanly.
There are also several utilities you don't have to pay for that will
break the password L0pht Heavy Industries is one of them It will dump the hash codes from the workstation in question and run through a brute force decrypting scheme to get your password
Visit their site at http://www.l0pht.com (note that is a zero, not the letter) and then highlight "LC3 (L0phtCrack)"
The README that's included says it can get the local passwords from a password dump file, generated either from a companion SAMDUMP utility or the hidden compressed SAM file in \winnt\repair\sam (L0phtCrack (LC3) 1.5 doesn't require admin rights) However, Admin rights can always be achieved using a program like GetAdmin (available at http://www.ntsecurity.net)and with MS expand.
Good Luck and Hope This Helps!
