How can I change the program to open a file?

I have recently got a new computer and when veiwing images such as jpg files it opens IE to display them. How can I select another viewer such as paint as default for opening image files?

Hope you can help with this.

Try looking in an explorer window Open Windows explorer, select

view-menu->Folder options and then select the tab "File types" Here you will find all of the extensions known to windows, along with the program that opens it.

i.e : If you wanted to use a different program for .jpg files, select the jpeg item in the list, click "Edit", select "open", click "edit", and finally select the program you would like it to startup with.
