Invalid system disk replace disk at startup?

A friend has given me a computer and it displays Invalid system disk replace disk at startup and won't move from there. I have read your answer to this question but there is no disk in the floppy; what else could it be ?

It could be that there is no operating system in your hard drive If there isn't one you'll have to install one.
