What is wrong with my display?

WinXP O/S, Hercules ProphetIIMX video.Colors fade and wash out using My Pix Slideshow Screensaver. Background picture in desktop calendar program Calendarium does same. Control panel 'Display' tells me color is reverting to 8 bit color no matter what I set it at. 16 and 32 bit color refuse to work. As soon as I reboot after making color change, it reverts to 8 bit. Yet, all colors in other programs, and mail attachments appear to be correct. I am confused to say the least. Bob Daszy

The Hercules Prophet Video Card is not listed as compatible with Windows XP on the hardware compatibility list (HCL) It may just not be designed to work with that operating system If you would like to search for a suitable card for your O/S or a suitable O/S for your card, you can go to the following site and search for "Hercules" under the type "Display"
