Why does my computer freeze while installing Windows 2000?

My computer freezes 3/4 of the way through win 2000 setup. It will always freeze whenever it gets to the detecting my hardware. How do I fix this?

The first thing to do is make sure that your hardware is listed on the Microsoft HCL (Hardware Compatibility List) for Windows 2000 on the Microsoft website If Windows 2000 does not like the hardware, it could be causing your problem
