Upgrade from 98 to XP lost Word documents

My son was trying to upgrade my computer to XP from 98 but he could not do it. While he did this he lost all my excel and word documents saved. Is there any way of getting them back?

If you have a backup of your lost work you might try using the backup.

If not, you may have lost them because the 2 gig drive is not large enough for the new operating system and the documents you had saved.

Possibly Data Drs may have a recovery program.
