Someone installed a polaroid camera(Photomax) on my computer, ran into software incompatability and uninstalled my Compaq A 1000(All-In-One) printer/scanner.I tried to reinstall my printer, keep getting error message:"Please insert CD-ROM with Serial Number B906-BE2E in Drive M:If the CD-ROM is still in the drive,it may require cleaning.Press ENTER for OK or ESC to cancel:"

I have cleaned the CD,used a dry head cleaner, and canned air and all seems okay but I keep getting this error when I try installation of printer software. My Printer installation CD is scratched even tho' I kept it in the plastic sleeve.I went to Compaq's website and was told to download some software BUT I can't download my own printer software and as such I can't download their software either.Any help other than buying a whole new printer or an expensive new printer CD?Thank you for any time and help you can render me in this mess.God bless you and yours.

You might try finding a friends computer to do your download onto a floppy or CD-RW ROM drive. Then take it home and transfer it to yours.

Next you can double check to see if the disk you are inserting is actually the correct serial number being requested Even though you may have purchased your printer new and that CD came with your printer sometime there are so many patches and updates that the manufacture creates a new CD for installation This was my experiance with my HP Printer

The scratch on your CD should not be the problem unless it's a deep scratch If you are the registered user for your printer then you can send them the old CD and they will send you a new CD usually free of charge

You did not say if other CD's work in your CD drive or not so this is about the best I can offer Good Luck
