Try another virus protection software.

Question

My computer refuses to shut down showing the message"a fatal exception OE has occurred at 0028:bff 88112.The current application will be terminated.

Press any key to terminate current application. Press ctr+alt+del again to restart your computer etc."

This in fact does not restart the computer, I have to press the restart button.I uninstalled my AVG free Virus protection as I understand that this could be a problem, and in fact the fault did not recur, until I installed Real Player when I am again having the same problem.and I am also without Virus protection.

I hope you will help me and also tell me what the message about fatal exception means

After looking at the 50 plus error messages in technet under windows 98 associated with "fatal exception oe has occured at 0028:"The only thing I found in common with all the error messages is that they all relate to the fact, the computer is trying to automatically start a third party desktop management interface It sounds like this third party virus software doesn't like windows 98 Also try virus protection software that has a strong presence in the market place If I was you, try looking at Trend Micro's virus protection software Their virus protection software definitly works with windows 98 The virus protection software from trend Micro SCANS the attachment before letting it in your computer
