With a little more information I could be more specific but here is my educated guess.

st Are you certain it is the keyboard and not a specific software program you use when noticing the problem? If it seems to happen in different programs and not just in a generic word processing program then it would be keyboard specific I purchased one of these inexpensive word processing suites and experianced the same problem as you Within a short time I realized it was the cheap software because it only happened when I was trying to write letter etc while using my new purchase I saved alot of money when compared to other expensive software ie Office 2000 but it drove me crazy and was very unstable.

nd If it is keyboard specific you should be getting an error code 301 or unusual beeps when you turn your computer on each time Like all electronics they do wear out at some point and time and need to be replaced For about $7.00 you can pick up a new standard keyboard and save yourself alot of problems waiting for it to completely die

rd If you are using a fancy keyboard rather than a standard keyboard You may need to update or reinstall the specific drivers for your keyboard with the CD or disk that would have come with your keyboard when purchased or download it from the manufacture on the internet.

th Some keyboards (wireless) have batteries in them If yours does you might try changing the batteries.

th Make sure you have updated all your drivers and necessary patches for Windows Update Click the START Button go up to the top where you see Windows Updates and click it.Hope this helps Good Luck!
