Turn off the power to your computer and unplug it from the wall Take the screws out from the case and lift the case off the computer carefully Ground yourself or touch the metal case of the computer before placing your hands inside your computer.

Just look inside to see if the ribbon cable to the floppy drive is connected to the back of the floppy drive Push on the cable firmly to make sure it is on tight Check out the other end of the ribbon cable (flat and wide cable)Is it firmly plugged into the motherboard?

Make sure the red line on the ribbon cable is on pin #1 usually closes to the power plug on the floppy drive, and the A drive is enabled in the BIOS If all of these are correct then you might try a new ribbon cable to see if that works before buying a new floppy drive If the drive light does not come on when you try to access it you need to check the small power connector (usually white 4 holes) that is in the back of the A drive to make certain it is pushed in tight Good Luck!
