Why do my printer and modem both exhibit problems?

I am often kicked off line and my computer freezes often. My printer also freezes and only prints a partial page. I have defragmented, closed all unused programs, and have ran a scan check. Should I reinstall windows 98 and my driver for my printer? Any help would be most appreciated...

First, back up all data on the PC.

Do a virus scan of the system.

Check all cables are connected properly, with set screws or connector clips in place.

Look under the Device Manager for any yellow event markers You may have an IRQ conflict between your printer and your modem Go slowly Note a troubleshooting wizard is available for your convenience.

I'd try reinstalling the printer driver all by itself See if this solves the problem The modem driver might also be a point of contention Get the latest updated drivers online.

Trying all of the above, the spirits tell me you will be able to figure it out.
