I have a slave drive and I have formated it using the format "button" from the subcontext menue from that drive.

I want to install a new win 2K pro OS over XP. when I put in the Win2kPro setup disk it says Iam installing over a more recent OS and will not let me install Win2Kpro.

What do I need to do to install Win2KPro over XP ?

Thank you,

Jeff

When you want to format your drive its good practice to use the fdisk command at the command prompt using a boot disk than just right clicking the drive and try and install a OS

When you mentioned that you wanted to install 2000 over XP this can never be done.

In the IT field its always good practice to install operating systems in order.

Windows 95 to 98 to 2000 to XP

Never downgrade by trying to install a OS to a lower OS.

The reason why you are getting that error message is because you can not downgrade from 2000 to XP you can install them in different partitions but you will not be able to just revert back to 2000 In this case the best advice i could give you is install xp on your new hard drive or complete a new 2000 install on your current hard drive create a extra partition or two and then install XP on one of the newly created partitions.
