Why the computer wont go on?

My computer will not turn on. I know the cord and the power source are okay because I switched to another hard drive and it works fine. I had no problems at all but my wife said the computer wouldn't turn off so she manually turned off the surge protector. After that, it hasn't worked. What is wrong and what can I do?

Make sure that the surge protector is getting electicity going threw it, by turning it back on.
