When the floopy disk fails on the computer you must do what?

My floppy disk will not read all it says when it tries to read it is that the disk in drive A: is not formatted I desperately need to retrieve the files on it please help because i know i haven't done any damage to it so WHY WONT IT WORK?

It is possiable that it is the floopy disc, so try another floopy and see if that works
