I have recently built a new computer. Upon starting it though i have found that it powers up (the CPU fan starts spinning etc case lights light up) but only for a few seconds then it automatically switches itself off and the power button won't let me turn it back on again unless i switch it off and back on again at the mains.

Are you sure that spankin' new AMD processor is installed right? Sounds like it may be overheating.

The fan has to be installed using heat transfer grease or a pad specially made for such purposes Any time the heat sink is removed for any reason, the pad or grease must be replaced.

Next, check the processor voltage If it is selectable, be certain it is selected right.

Is the power supply large enough, current-wise? Unplug all unnecessary expansion cards or drives, then try again.

Any POST codes? Consult your motherboard manual for interpretations In fact, this might be a good time to read the manual cover-to-cover if you haven't already done so.

If none of this works, you just might have a bad piece of hardware.
