Can I swap my processor for a different type from a different manufacturer?

i have a computer with an amd athalon 500 processer i also have a parts machine with a p3 800 processer i want to take the p3 and put it into my current machine can i swaping them out or would i have to buy a new mother board to hold the p3 processer

I am going to ask you to please read the manual for your motherboard.

Motherboard manuals are almost always available online, if they can't be found around the house.

Processors are rarely interchangeable Neither are motherboards, for that matter
