Why you modem isnt working?

I've recently bought USR modem 56k Voice Faxmodem, and have installed drivers for it.

Now the problem is that modem dials 10 times with approx. 30 sec interval between dials. When it comes to 10th time it starts to dial very fast and reports the massage The computer you dialed did not respond. I've got win98se and i've changed the connection settings in dial up networking menu to redial 99 times before giving up, and time between tries is 0 sec. Please help.

These are some possiable reason for the modem not to work right.

using the wrong drivers for your modem.

using the wrong driver version for your version of windows.

impoper connection of the phone line or satellite/cable/DSL high speed connection cables/hardware.

failure of the support software for the service, such as corropted Dial -up networking in Windows or misconfiguration high-speed provider software.

Resourse conflict,where thesame resources used bu the COM port providing communication with the modem are being used by another device in your PC such as asound or network adapter.

update your drivers, verify the phone speed, and make sure you get a dial tone and verify through your provider that the configuration is correctly also check the device manager for devices with a yellow exclamation point or a red X mark, they could be the sourse of your problem with your modem's COM port.
