I am trying to replace a CD ROM with a Memorex Maxx1240 DVD Drive. At present I have a CD ROM and a CD-RW which work well in my machine. When I tried to replace the CD ROM with the DVD all I get is the DVD 'busy' light on all the time and the Drive is not recognised or working. I have checked the jumpers (DVD at the end of the cable as Master, CD-RW as Slave) and I have checked that all leads and cables are in properly. I have had the DVD Drive tested in other machines and it works properly. Both the Computer and the DVD ROM drive are obviously not new but work well normally. I have tried all means I can think of to try and get my machine to recognise the new hardware but to no avail. Any ideas please? In my Device manager my CD ROM is listed of course so I also tried to remove this in the hopes that my DVD would not conflict with the old CD entry. No luck this time either! Since trying to replace the CD with the DVD I have had to go back to my original set-up which works so the cable is sound.

Try this configuration:

When configuring optical drives such as DVD and Cd Players...always configure the CD to be Master and the DVD as slave or cable select...I came to this conclusion because you stated the DVD 'busy' light on all the time It looks like your cable jumpers to be configured this way..

Also try unistalling and reinstalling your drivers And also make sure you have drivers that are compatible with your operating system.
