How to stop your computer from slowing down?

i am doing this for a friend. He just installed a philips cd burner. about two weeks later the computer started to go realy slow. when you do every thing from open a file to play a song this starts to slow down and the mouse lags any help info or any thing else will be appreiatied

You need to check the speed :

here is what you have to do

right click on my computer and then chosse properties

then choose the performance tab

choose the file system to open the file system properties window

choose the cd-rom tab

move the slide all the way up to larger this will reserve the maxium amount of your computers system memory for caching reads from your optimal disk choose ok and then ok again to close the box.
